Leaving Nashvegas

Leaving with my folks for Georgia this morning. This may be my last post ever from Green Lantern (my laptop). I probably won’t post again before about Neel’s Gap (trail mile 31).
I’m very happy to be getting on the trail (which I will do Friday). Wish me luck.
Did I mention it’s snowing? Supposed to get [...]

Does a deer sit in the woods?

I’ve seen lots of deer in my time in the various woods. Well, there’s lots of deer out at Radnor Lake. Back when I used to volunteer there, the ranger, Randy, told me about how they had put some tracking devices on a family of deer, and discovered that on most nights, they crossed I-65 [...]

As I drive from your pearly gates

… i realize that i just can’t stay
But I’m quite happy to be here, the launch pad for my AT adventure.
Had a great last day in New Orleans. Then, slight change of plans, instead of driving the Natchez Trace, I dropped Jill off at the Memphis airport (she’s flying to Mexico, we have tiny violins [...]

Arrived in Big Easy

We have arrived in The Big Easy and are on our way out for a drink. More later.

RTNO

I am back at the hotel now, after having volunteered today in the Broadmoor district, via Rebuilding Together New Orleans. It was actually just me and the project leader – Hannah. The project was to put in some snap flooring (laminate) into a house. The owner of the house, coincidentally also named Hannah (Miss Hannah, [...]

Cuban Food in Texas? Moo!

One of the things we talked about -wrt wide open spaces – was that we were in a car and [...]

Calexico

Ft. Hancock MotelFt. Hancock, Texas
Long driving day. Got off just before 9 and drove until midnight – though there was one time change.
My goal all along was to get “just past El Paso.” Jill was looking at the map and warning me that there was nothing just past El Paso. I told her nonsense, it’s [...]

It was a good day…

… And I didn’t even have to use my AK…
Got up, and went downtown to a matinee show of the LA Philharmonic, at the Disney Concert Hall. OMG is that a gorgeous space – all metal on the outside, all wood on the inside, beautiful, and sounds great, too. What we saw was three short [...]

Goodnight, Hollywood Boulevard

It took about 6 hours to drive yesterday from 17th Street in Oakland to the Sunset Strip, including a lengthy lunch stop at a Denny’s somewhere on Highway 5. I had created a playlist called Drive – 73 songs from my collection (I didn’t have to buy any) about driving, leaving, going, traveling, or wandering. [...]
