One Year Ago Today, my feet were kings

This is what I wrote one year ago today from Hot Springs, North Carolina.
Of all the places on the trail I want to go back and visit, Elmer’s is definitely one of them. Great place.
It was also a year ago today that I met Spoc and Twiggy for the first time. I was walking back [...]

Film Review, and another edition of One Year Ago Today

Duplicity: A solid A. I’m a sucker for this kind of film. I suppose you could have a minor beef in that Julia Roberts essentially plays Julia Roberts and Clive Owen essentially plays Clive Owen, but hey, I like those guys, and I liked this movie. I think it works well.

RIP Parkway

One of the coolest places on earth, and one of the things that makes Oakland Oakland is closing its doors next week. Don’t know why. It looks like they’re keeping the Cerrito open. I can’t walk there, but I’m sure I’ll be checking it out. The Parkway will be missed.

Three Music Things That Are Good

One year ago today, I was in the Smoky Mountains, enduring what I described in my journal as a “soul-erasing wind.” When I finally got some shelter behind a ridge, I almost fell over, I had been leaning so hard to the left into the wind. I even skipped going to the lookout tower at [...]

One Year Ago Today – one of the hardest days on the trail

I’ve been resisting the temptation, almost daily, to post “one year ago today” entries. I figure I might as well indulge it.
One year ago today, I woke up at the Nantahalla Outdoor Center – one of the nation’s premier river kayaking schools that is right on the trail and makes a bunkhouse available to hikers. [...]
